Small Business Incentive Program in Borger, Texas
May 30, 2018
The Borger Economic Development Corporation announces the Small Business Incentive Program
The Borger Economic Development Corporation is currently seeking applications from local businesses for its Small Business Incentive Program. Businesses with 20 or less full-time employees that are located within Borger city limits may be eligible for a matching grant from the Borger Economic Development Corporation. A total of $200,000 has been set aside for this program.
Through the Small Business Incentive Program, the Borger EDC is offering to reimburse qualified businesses for improving their facades, structures, or interiors. Other reimbursable expenses include lease subsidies for businesses re-locating to the Central Business District, and certain technology or marketing expenses.
In most cases, the Borger EDC will reimburse a business for up to 50% of the actual dollars spent on a qualified project. However, money spent on the exterior façade of a business can be reimbursed at 100%, up to $2,000.
“We expect that the improvements made as a result of this program will encourage the community, as well as visitors who live outside of Borger, to shop, eat, and seek services at local businesses, which adds to our sales tax base. We want to retain dollars spent in Borger and also improve the aesthetics of our town, and this program has the potential to do both”, said Katie Lingor, Executive Director of the Borger Economic Development Corporation.
The Borger EDC hosted two information sessions at the Borger Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, April 3rd at 8:30 am and 5:30 pm to meet with local business owners and answer their questions about the program. Anyone who could not attend is encouraged to call the Borger EDC at 806-521-0027 or stop by the Borger EDC office at 1111 Penn Ave in Borger to get more information and obtain an application.
The Borger City Council approved the Borger EDC’s Small Business Incentive Program on Tuesday, March 20th in their regularly scheduled meeting. Businesses that have an active agreement with the Borger EDC are not eligible to participate in the Small Business Incentive Program. The Borger EDC will not be back-funding projects; businesses must receive their approval from the Borger EDC before the project begins to be eligible for reimbursement. The maximum amount any business can receive is $20,000.
