Borger's supply of labor is only matched by the exceptional workforce training opportunities through our partners at Frank Phillips College. Through its relationship with Existing Industry, FPC has tailored a Career & Technical Education program that is second to none. From extensive safety training to certificate programs for welding and process technology, FPC is dedicated to serving the needs of industry and other local businesses so that a pipeline of talent is sustained for our employers.
Refinery and Plant Training: Instrumentation and Electrical Technology, Process Technology, and Pump & Engine courses are offered by Frank Phillips College to support our Existing Industries' need for skilled operators and industrial mechanics. In 2018, the Borger EDC invested $90,000 in equipment for the Process Technology Certification (PTEC) program and worked with the Panhandle Workforce Board to receive a matching grant from Texas Workforce Commission to expand other high demand jobs training programs at Frank Phillips College.
Safety Training: OSHA, welding safety, American Red Cross First Aid & CPR and AED, and crane safety are just a few of the courses available through the well-rounded Frank Phillips College Safety Training Center. Instructors are available to create a class dedicated to your company and your employees, or you may elect to send an individual employee to traditional class with other students. Whatever your safety needs, you can be sure that FPC has access to instructors and equipment to facilitate your training and ensure your company's safety goals are met.
Nursing (RNs, LVNs): In 2018, funds from a High Demand Jobs Training Grant from Texas Workforce Commission were used to expand Frank Phillips College's licensed vocation nursing program. Then, just two months later, FPC announced it would participate in the Rural Nursing Education Consortium (RNEC) with Amarillo College, Coon Memorial Hospital District (Dallam-Hartley Counties), Golden Plains Community Hospital (Borger), Hereford Regional Medical Center, and Moore County Hospital District to bring training and education for registered nurses (RNs) to rural communities in the Texas Panhandle. Students will now be able to obtain their Associate Degree in Nursing to become a registered nurse in Borger.
Skills for Small Business: Frank Phillips College is a recipient of the Texas Workforce Commission's Skills for Small Business grant. Funds from this grant can be used to cover 100% of the cost to train a full-time employee of a small business (100 employees or less) in several different courses. Social Media and Marketing, Excel Basics, QuickBooks training, safety training, and many other classes are available through coordination with Frank Phillips College. Employers will qualify for up to $900 per existing full-time employees and $1,800 for new full-time employees.
