Overview
Build it better with full-service support.
Greater flexibility, smarter funding. As a state-designated Type A economic development entity, the Borger Economic Development Corporation is funded with a mission of support for a range of industrial and manufacturing projects. However, strategic additions to the corporation’s charter allow the EDC to support seven different Type B capabilities without necessitating a Type B tax. That gives the EDC the flexibility to provide the comprehensive services—full-service support—that assure an ideal business climate and an optimal community environment for growth.
The Borger EDC also owes its effectiveness to the strong support of a collaborative, pro-business community with vision for the future. Together we are forging a stronger Borger through success stories such as these:
Pouring on support with a clear commitment. When Nutrien (formerly Agrium) decided to make a $1 billion expansion to its fertilizer manufacturing operations, the city of Borger stepped in with a new $33 million water infrastructure project, providing additional water—up to 10 million gallons—to support the expansion.
Processing workforce needs to deliver powerful solutions. The Borger EDC collaborates closely with Frank Phillips College’s Career/Technical Education (CTE) advisory board and local industry to identify workforce development needs and to provide powerfully effective solutions across all sectors. A few examples:
- When members of the CTE advisory board determined a local need for more refinery operators with a process technology certification, the Borger EDC came through with a $90,000 grant to expand a PTEC program at FPC with state-of-the art equipment.
- With a matching state grant, the EDC also helped expand an LVN training program at FPC to address a skilled nursing workforce shortage and prepare graduates of the program for a fulfilling career in a high demand occupation.
- To strengthen agribusiness quality and bolster agribusiness skills, the EDC furnished a $100,000 grant to the Frank Phillips College agriculture program to launch an embryo transfer program that allows students to learn a critical skill and breeders to produce genetically enhanced cattle.
Incubating greater success for small business and entrepreneurs. The Borger EDC and the city of Borger nurture success for businesses of every size and in every stage of growth. Through LeadingEDG’s entrepreneurial development services, the EDC offers strategic solutions for small businesses to address a variety of needs, from enhancing cash flow and expanding markets and operations to preparing businesses for sale. And while strategic information and knowledge are critical for small business success, the EDC also awards cold hard cash—the EDC’s Small Business Incentive Program provides up to 50% funding (in some cases 100%) on qualified projects for expansion and enhancement.
From water to workforce, from better breeds of cattle to a stronger breed of small business, the EDC’s full-service support helps business build better in Borger.
